The mattress topper

Thickness, feel, fit and the first week.

How thick is it, really?

2 inches when fluffed, with 10.5 lb of wool in a Queen (6.5 lb Twin XL, 9 lb Full, 13 lb King, 12.5 lb California King). It adds cushioning and takes the pressure off hips and shoulders. It will not rescue a mattress that sags in the middle; a topper follows the sag.

Will it make my bed softer or firmer?

Softer at the surface, with the support of your mattress still underneath. A firm mattress changes the most. A soft mattress gets a little more cushion and a drier, cooler surface, not more support.

Does it sleep hot?

No. Wool breathes and moves moisture away from your body, which is why hot sleepers are our most frequent buyers. In winter the same layer of still air keeps you warmer. Memory foam does the opposite: it holds heat and sweat at the surface.

Which size do I need?

Match your mattress size. Twin XL 80 × 39 in, Full 75 × 54 in, Queen 80 × 60 in, King 80 × 76 in; every size is 2 inches thick. Measure your mattress, and if it falls between sizes choose the larger one. The topper bends over the edge.

Will it slide around?

Four elastic corner straps hold it to mattresses up to 18 in deep. Your fitted sheet goes over the top of the topper and holds it flat.

Does it work on memory foam, latex or an adjustable base?

Yes. It sits on top of any mattress, including memory foam, latex and hybrids, and the elastic corner straps hold it on an adjustable base. Two inches of wool over a foam mattress makes it noticeably cooler and drier to sleep on.

Why does it arrive flat?

Wool is compressed for shipping, and it remembers its shape: hand fluffing is how you bring it back, and it is a must. Unbox it the day it arrives, hook the straps on and knead every quilted square. Fluffed properly, it reaches its full 2 inches and looks like the topper in our photos. How to fluff it, step by step →

What does it smell like?

A faint natural wool scent out of the box that fades within about a week. It is the smell of wool, not of chemicals; there is nothing on the topper to off-gas.

How long does it last?

Decades, with a fluff when you change the sheets and a few hours in the sun twice a year. Wool recovers its loft; it does not break down the way foam does.

The wool pillow

Firmness, loft and the cover.

Is it firm?

Yes, firm and springy out of the box. Remove pearls to make it lower and softer. It cannot be made higher than full.

How do I set the height?

Unzip the cover and take out a few handfuls of wool pearls at a time. Full, it stands up to 7 inches; with wool taken out it goes as low as 2. Side sleepers usually keep it full; back sleepers remove a little; stomach sleepers often remove about half. Keep the extra pearls in a sealed bag and give yourself two or three nights between adjustments.

Will it go flat?

Wool pearls spring back after a night of pressure. Knead the pillow for a moment each morning to redistribute them, and add pearls back if it ever sits lower than you like.

Which size and pillowcase?

Queen is 20 × 30 in and fits queen pillowcases; a standard case is a snug fit. King is 20 × 36 in and fits king pillowcases.

Can I wash it?

Yes, in two parts. Take the wool out first; the 100% organic cotton cover and the inner cotton pouch then machine wash cold on a delicate cycle. The wool is not machine washable: if it ever needs washing, submerge it in a bath of water, wash it gently by hand and let it air dry in the open.

Materials and care

What is inside, and how to look after it.

What exactly is inside?

The topper: 1650 GSM of organic merino wool, carded into an even layer and quilted into an organic cotton shell. The pillow: organic merino wool pearls from New Zealand in an inner cotton pouch, inside a zippered cover of 100% organic cotton. No foam, no polyester, no adhesives, no feathers and no added flame retardants. The wool and the cotton in both are certified organic to the Organic Content Standard (OCS 100).

Is it certified organic?

Yes. Our toppers and pillows are made in our workshop in Istanbul, which Control Union certifies to the Organic Content Standard (OCS 100) for mattress toppers and pillows. OCS 100 means at least 95% of the material is certified organic: ours is organic merino wool in organic cotton. View the certificate on Control Union

Is wool itchy?

The wool is inside an organic cotton shell and never touches your skin. Under a fitted sheet or a pillowcase you feel cushion, not fiber.

What about wool allergies?

True wool allergy is rare; most reactions people describe are to coarse fibers or to chemicals used in finishing. Ours is organic, carded merino sealed in cotton. If you have reacted to wool before, the 90-night trial is there for exactly this.

How do I clean the topper?

Spot clean with mild detergent and air dry. Use a breathable mattress protector. Air it in the sun for a few hours twice a year. Professional dry clean if needed. Never machine wash or tumble dry it: heat and agitation felt wool.

Is the wool cruelty-free?

Shearing is not the cruel part: a merino cannot shed its own fleece and has to be shorn about once a year to stay healthy. Our topper wool comes from New Zealand, where mulesing has been illegal since 2018. Why shearing is care, not cruelty →

Where is it made?

In small batches in Türkiye: the toppers in Istanbul, the pillows hand-filled in Istanbul. Woolify itself is in San Diego, California. How it is made →

Shipping and delivery

Cost, timing and tracking.

How much is shipping?

Free in the continental US. Alaska, Hawaii, US territories and Canada are a flat $79, applied at checkout. International shipping is calculated at checkout; duties, taxes and VAT are the buyer’s responsibility.

How long does delivery take?

Orders ship the next business day, and continental US deliveries arrive in 3 to 5 business days after that (longer in the holiday peak). International orders typically take 7 to 21 business days.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. You receive a tracking link by email the moment the order is fulfilled.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Email us as soon as possible; orders are processed the next business day. Once it has shipped it cannot be cancelled, but the 90-night trial covers it: refuse the delivery or return it once it arrives.

What comes in the box?

The topper arrives rolled and compressed, with its four corner straps sewn on and a care card. The pillow arrives filled full in its cover. Nothing to assemble; the topper needs a thorough fluff by hand on day one.

The 90-night trial and returns

How it works, who pays, and when the refund arrives.

How does the 90-night trial work?

You have 90 nights from the day of delivery. Sleep on it for at least a week first; wool softens slightly as it settles and your body takes a few nights to adjust. If it is not right, email hello@woolify.shop within those 90 days and we refund in full. No restocking fee.

Who pays for return shipping?

Returns are free in the contiguous US; we arrange the shipping. For Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US territories and APO/FPO/DPO addresses the actual return shipping cost is deducted from the refund. International customers pay return shipping and any customs fees.

What condition does it have to be in?

Normal use is expected; that is what the trial is for. Excessive damage, stains or misuse can affect eligibility. Original packaging is nice to have, not required.

When do I get my refund?

Within 5 to 7 business days of the return arriving and being inspected, to the original payment method.

Can I exchange it for another size?

We do not do direct exchanges. Return the first one under the trial and place a new order for the right size; email us first and we will make sure the two do not cross.

What if it arrives damaged or defective?

Contact us within 5 days of delivery with photos of the item and the packaging. We send a replacement or refund in full, at no cost to you.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. The mattress topper carries a 5-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship: seams and stitching, the cover fabric, the corner straps and other manufacturing defects. We repair first and replace if it cannot be repaired. It covers the original purchaser of a topper bought new from Woolify, here or in our official Amazon and Etsy shops; normal wear, comfort preferences and the natural character of wool are not defects. The wool pillow’s zipper and seams are covered for 5 years too; its wool fill and cover fabric are not. Read the full warranty →

I bought it on Amazon or Etsy. Can I return it here?

Returns of marketplace orders follow that marketplace’s process. For anything about the product itself, fluffing, care, sizing, email us anyway; we are the same people.

Ordering and payment

Prices, discounts and ways to pay.

Is the price the same as on Amazon?

Yes. The topper is $299 to $399 by size and the pillow $199 or $229, here and there. Buying here gets you $20 off your first order when you join the list, and support from the people who make it.

How can I pay?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Shop Pay lets you split the total into 4 interest-free payments.

Is there a discount?

$20 off your first order when you join the email list (the form is at the bottom of every page).

Do you have a showroom?

No. Woolify is online only, from San Diego. The 90-night trial is the showroom: sleep on it at home, on your own mattress, and decide.

Do you sell wholesale or to hotels?

Email hello@woolify.shop with “wholesale” in the subject and tell us what you have in mind: quantities, sizes and timing. [WHOLESALE TERMS, IF ANY]
