Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about caring for, sleeping on, and getting the most out of your Woolify Merino wool bedding.

01 Before You Buy

What materials are used in your wool bedding?

Our products are made with 100% Organic Merino Wool fill encased in a 100% Organic Waw Cotton outer shell. We do not use synthetic fibers, polyester batting, chemical flame retardants, or harsh dyes.

If you have a known sensitivity to wool, lanolin, or organic cotton, please review the materials carefully before purchasing. Total transparency in materials is part of how we build trust with our customers.

Is your wool mulesing-free and ethically sourced?

Yes. We source exclusively from suppliers who certify that their wool is mulesing-free and produced under humane animal welfare standards.

Ethical sourcing is non-negotiable for a premium product. We work directly with small farms that meet our standards for animal care, land stewardship, and minimal processing.

What certifications do your products carry?

Our products are produced to standards that prioritize purity and ethical sourcing. Certifications may vary by product line — please refer to the individual product page for the specific certifications that apply.

Common certifications our suppliers hold include OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (verifies no harmful substances), GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard for the cotton shell), and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) for animal welfare and land management.

Is wool bedding hypoallergenic? Will it help with dust mites?

Wool is naturally resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew. Dust mites need humidity to thrive, and wool's moisture-wicking properties keep the sleep surface dry — making it inhospitable for them.

Wool is also naturally hypoallergenic for most people. True wool allergies are rare and are typically a reaction to lanolin (the natural oil in wool). If you have a confirmed wool or lanolin allergy, this product is not recommended for you.

Will the topper feel cold to the touch like a "cooling" gel pad?

No — and this distinction is important. Wool is a temperature regulator, not an active cooling material like synthetic gel.

Synthetic gel pads feel cold initially because they conduct heat away briefly, but they trap moisture and heat over the night. Wool works differently: it wicks moisture away from your body and breathes, keeping you at a stable, comfortable temperature throughout the night.

Hot sleepers report consistent body temperature, drier sleep with wool — even though it doesn't feel cold to the touch when you first lie down.

Will this work on a deep mattress, adjustable bed, or memory foam?

Our toppers are compatible with most mattress types, including memory foam, hybrid, innerspring, and pillow-tops. They are flexible enough for adjustable beds and won't crack or break when the bed articulates.

For mattresses deeper than 18 inches, you may need an extra-deep fitted sheet to comfortably cover both the topper and the mattress.

A wool topper enhances a healthy mattress, but it cannot rescue a sagging or structurally damaged mattress. If your mattress has core issues, those should be addressed first.
I'm a side sleeper / heavier-set / have specific pain points. Which product should I choose?

Side sleepers and heavier individuals benefit from our toppers, which provide more cushion at the shoulders and hips. Back and stomach sleepers often prefer wool topper for proper spinal alignment.

Our pillows are also tuned for different sleep positions — different lofts work best depending on whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.

If you're unsure, contact our customer support team. We'll help you select the right product for your body, your mattress, and your sleep style.

02 Unboxing & First Use

My new wool bedding has a distinct smell. Are there chemicals in it?

There are zero harsh chemicals, treatments, or synthetic fragrances in our products. The scent you're noticing is the natural lanolin found in organic, high-quality Merino wool.

Because our products are tightly compressed for shipping, that natural scent becomes concentrated when you first open the packaging. It's strongest in the first few days and fades significantly after 1–2 weeks of normal use and airing out.

To speed up the process: place the product in a well-ventilated room, or briefly outside in dry, shaded air (never in direct sun or rain).

My topper arrived flat, wrinkled, and ridged. How do I get it to look like the photos?

This is completely normal. Wool toppers and pillows are tightly compressed and folded for shipping to reduce packaging waste and shipping costs.

To restore the loft:

  • Lay the topper flat on your mattress.
  • Give it a vigorous shake to break up the compressed fibers.
  • Manually pull apart the top and bottom surfaces of the pillow-top sections to agitate the wool inside.
  • For pillows, fluff and reshape by hand.

Wool is naturally springy. Combined with a few nights of body weight and warmth, it will regain its full loft within the first week.

Why is there small organic matter (grass, plant material) in the wool? Is my product used?

Your product is brand new — we never sell used items. Every product we ship leaves our facility sealed and unused.

The tiny specks of natural matter you may notice are a hallmark of minimally processed, genuine organic wool. Heavily processed wool is bleached and chemically scoured to remove every trace of its origin — but that process also strips out beneficial properties like lanolin.

We process our wool just enough to clean it while preserving the qualities that make Merino wool truly special.

Why was my pillow wrapped in paper instead of plastic?

Some of our products ship in eco-friendly paper wrapping rather than plastic to reduce single-use packaging waste. Both packaging types maintain product cleanliness and freshness during transit.

Every product we ship is 100% brand new. If your packaging shows signs of damage, water exposure, or tampering during shipping, please contact us right away with photos so we can make it right.

03 Daily Use & Care

My topper feels firm or thin — will it relieve my pressure points right away?

Wool toppers are designed for buoyant, breathable orthopedic support — not the plush sinking sensation of synthetic memory foam. Your musculoskeletal system needs a few nights to adapt to the natural support of wool.

We ask all customers to honor a 14-Night Adjustment Period:

Nights 1–2: Firmer than expected — the wool is still compressed.
Nights 6–7: Fibers begin to loft and conform to your body.
Nights 10–14+: You'll feel the full supportive, pressure-distributing benefits.

If after a full 3-weeks you feel the firmness is wrong for your body, contact us and we'll help you find the right product or process a return.

How do I keep my topper from shifting on the mattress?

The most reliable method: layer a deep-pocketed fitted sheet over both the topper and the mattress, stretching it tightly. This locks the topper firmly in place — better than any strap system on the market.

For mattresses deeper than 14 inches, look for an "extra-deep" or "16-inch pocket" fitted sheet.

The included corner straps are designed this in mind. However, the fitted sheet will reduce shifting.

How do I wash my wool bedding?

Wool requires gentle care to maintain its loft and structural integrity. Always check the care label on your specific product, but these general guidelines apply:

  • Spot-clean spills immediately with cool water and a small amount of wool-safe detergent.
  • Most toppers and pillows should NOT be machine washed — heavy water saturation can damage the wool batting and ruin the structure.
  • Removable cotton covers in pillows can typically be machine washed cold on a gentle cycle.
  • Never use bleach, fabric softener, or enzyme-based detergents on wool.
  • Air dry only — do not tumble dry. Heat will felt and shrink wool permanently.
  • For deep cleaning, professional wool cleaning is recommended.

Regular airing in a dry, shaded space is often all wool needs to stay fresh — it's naturally self-cleaning and antimicrobial.

Can I use my wool topper with an electric blanket or heated mattress pad?

Wool is naturally insulating and warm on its own — most customers find they don't need additional heat once they've adjusted to it.

We do not recommend placing an electric blanket or heated mattress pad directly under the wool topper. Sustained heat can dry the wool fibers over time and shorten the lifespan of the product.

If you want extra warmth on a particularly cold night, layer the heated blanket on top of the fitted sheet (above the topper) for occasional use only.

04 Long-Term Care

How do I store my wool topper or pillow when not in use?

If you're storing wool bedding seasonally (e.g., a heavier topper during summer):

  • Make sure the product is fully dry and clean before storage. Moisture invites mildew.
  • Store in a breathable cotton or canvas bag — never plastic, which traps moisture.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Add cedar blocks or sachets of dried lavender to deter moths. Avoid mothballs — they leave chemical residue on natural fibers.

Check stored items every 1–2 months for any signs of moths or moisture.

How long should my wool bedding last?

With proper care, our products are built to last many decades. Wool is one of the most durable natural fibers available — high-quality Merino retains its loft and resilience far longer than synthetic alternatives.

Some natural changes over time are expected and normal:

  • Compression marks that fluff out with airing.
  • Slight softening and conforming to your body shape.
  • A gradual mellowing of any natural lanolin scent.

If you notice significant flattening, bald spots, holes, or uneven distribution within the warranty period, contact our support team — we'll evaluate it under your warranty coverage. Please see the Warranty for Terms & Conditions

05 Authenticity & Warranty

How do I make sure I'm buying authentic Woolify?

Authenticity matters — especially because there are unauthorized resellers and counterfeit listings that try to mimic premium wool brands online.

Before checkout, confirm:

  • The "Sold By" name on the listing matches our official seller name.
  • The listing references our official brand name and uses our product photography.
  • You're buying from our official website, our verified Amazon storefront, our Etsy shop, or our Shopify site.

When your order arrives, check for:

  • Our brand hangtags and labeled packaging.
  • The texture and weight of pure Merino wool fill — never polyester batting.

If anything in your shipment feels off — unbranded packaging, polyester-feeling fill, no tags — please contact us immediately with photos and your order number so we can investigate and help you take action.

What is your trial period and return policy?

We want you to love your Woolify bedding. To qualify for return:

  • Try the product for the full Adjustment Period — at least 14 nights.
  • Keep all original tags and packaging.
  • Contact our support team to initiate a return — we'll guide you through the process step by step.

For complete details on warranty coverage, replacement policies, and what's included, please see our Warranty page.

What does my warranty cover?

Our warranty covers manufacturing defects and material failure under normal use. This generally includes beyond what's expected from natural wear, structural seam failures, and defects in the wool fill or cotton shell.

The warranty does not cover damage from improper care (e.g., machine washing or tumble drying products that shouldn't be), pet damage, stains, or normal cosmetic changes over time.

For full terms, please review our Warranty page. To start a warranty claim, contact our support team with your order number and photos of the issue.
